Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat retells the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, his eleven brothers, and the famed coat of many colors. Presented entirely through song and guided by a Narrator, the musical follows Joseph, the favored son. After his brothers sell him into slavery, Joseph rises in Potiphar’s household but is imprisoned when he rebuffs Potiphar’s wife.
While confined, Joseph discovers he can interpret dreams and is brought before an Elvis-inspired Pharaoh who is troubled by visions. Joseph’s interpretation and plan to resolve Egypt’s looming famine earn him the position of Pharaoh’s right-hand man and ultimately lead to a family reunion.
The show features an eclectic score with memorable numbers ranging from a parody of French ballads to country-western and calypso styles, including the well-known songs “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.”
